Powerful, aggressive, clever, elegant and evil. These can only be a few words to describe the queen of sparidae family, the Dentex Dentex. Although it is not the biggest member of breams, it is certainly one of the cleverest. Dentex are known to live for very long years reaching up to close to 15kg. Although scientific papers and local telltales mention some fish around 20kg, a dentex over 4kg can easily be considered as a trophy catch. Dentex can be seen all around the Mediterranean waters and in Eastern Atlantic up to British Isles to Cape Blanc, Senegal and around the Canary Islands and Madeira.
